DLG quality seal for hoof care and hygiene products

For healthy hooves and best possible protection

About half of the hoof diseases occurring in cattle farming are caused by germs.

Hygiene measures, such as the use of hoof care and hygienic solutions in hoof baths or hoof cleaning systems, are intended to reduce the number of germs adhering to the hoof, thereby reducing infection pressure.

However, if these products are too aggressive, which is especially true for products with a high disinfectant effect, they can damage the skin and hoof horn of the animals as well as attack barn equipment.

This may cause lesions in the animals, which are ideal entry points for germs, increase the risk of new infections and consequently counteract the hoped-for effects of disinfection.

In the case of barn equipment, such as partitions made of galvanised steel, corrosion damage that is actually avoidable in the medium to long term occurs when they come into contact with corrosive solutions.

Hoof care and hygiene agents

Products for hoof care and hygiene with the DLG seal of quality are tested in a European standard test (EN test) to ensure that they

  • have a sufficient disinfecting capacity,
  • do not damage the claw horn,
  • are skin-friendly and do not cause redness and
  • have no corrosive effect on galvanised steel and rubber walkway mats.
