The DLG tests N-/P-reduced feeds

Quality and safety in the value chain

DLG Seal of Quality: More quality on the animal feed market

In view of increasingly complex demands on animal husbandry, feed must meet a number of requirements. They not only serve to meet needs, but are a guarantee for the health and performance of the animals, for environmentally and animal-friendly production of food, for safety and quality in the value chain and for the profitability of the farm.

Livestock farmers must be able to rely on the quality of their feed. The DLG Seal of Quality stands for transparency and quality in feed production. The experts at the DLG Test Center Technology and Farm Inputs ensure that the products are of the highest quality and continuously maintain that quality with regular tests based on current quality standards.

The focus: N-/P-reduced feed

In order to be able to reduce or even avoid nutrient surpluses, it is advisable to supply livestock with raw protein and phosphorus as accurately as possible. However, the N and P reduction is subject to physiological limits, as feeding must ensure a supply of nutrients in line with requirements at all times. The focus of the test for the DLG seal of quality "N-/P-reduced feed" is therefore on the optimal supply of protein or amino acids and phosphorus to the animals with a simultaneous maximum reduction in the excretion of nitrogen and phosphorus via faeces and urine.

Objectives

N-/P-reduced pig feed

  • Review of the recipe and the concept of the feed
  • Analytical determination of crude protein, lysine, calcium and phosphorus in the product, as well as essential individual components
  • Calculation of the proportions of amino acids in relation to each other and to the energy content and evaluation of phytase supplementation

Fulfilment of the nutrient requirements of very strongly N-/P-reduced feeding according to DLG bulletin 418

N-/P-reduced
dairy cattle feed

  • Review of the recipe and the concept of the feed
  • Analytical determination of crude protein, calcium and phosphorus in the product, as well as essential individual components
  • Computational determination of the contents of usable crude protein and the ruminal N-balance from the product recipe and underlying ration planning

Fulfilment of the nutrient requirements of N-/P-reduced feeding according to DLG bulletin 444

N-/P-reduced
poultry feed

  • Review of the recipe and the concept of the feed
