Homologation, safety, conformity

Internationally experienced and competently networked, the DLG Test Center offers comprehensive testing and inspection services within the scope of approval-relevant tests according to standards and regulations. You'll find an overview of the current designations here

In addition to carrying out the test, each test includes documentation of the test results with photos and measured values as well as reporting.

Homologation: tests and appraisals

Thanks to our extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations, the DLG Test Center can organise the entire homologation procedure for your vehicles. The tests are conducted in our own test laboratory and in suitable external test laboratories or the manufacturer’s own facilities.

Inspection services

Complete vehicles, systems, components and independent technical units

To enable you, as the manufacturer, to bring your vehicles onto the market with EU Certificates of Conformity (CoC), we support you in EU overall vehicle type approvals in accordance with framework Regulations (EU) 167/2013 and (EU) 2018/858.

We test and appraise overall vehicles of the following vehicle categories:

  • Agricultural tractors (vehicle categories T and C)
  • Agricultural trailers (vehicle category R)
  • Towed exchangeable implements (vehicle category S)
  • Motor vehicles and motor vehicle trailers (vehicle categories M, N, O)

We test systems, components and autonomous technical units for all vehicle categories, including:

  • Two- or three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles (vehicle category L pursuant to Regulation (EU) 168/2013)

Besides the pan-EU harmonised sector, we also support you in the approval of self-propelled working machines in accordance with national German regulations, e.g. in general operating permits for vehicle types in accordance with Section 20 StVZO or in preparing sample reports for the appraisal of individual vehicles in accordance with Section 21 StVZO.

Mechanical connection devices

As a technical service for the type approval of vehicles and vehicle components, we test mechanical coupling devices according to the requirements of:

  • UN ECE Regulations Nos. 55, 102, 147
  • Regulation (EU) 2015/208 Annex XXXIV
  • The German Vehicle Licensing Regulations (StVZO) for the issue of general design type approvals in accordance with Section 22a StVZO

Among others, we test:

  • Coupling balls
  • Trailer brackets
  • Pin couplings
  • Trailer hitches
  • Drawbars
  • Towing eyes
  • Fifth wheel couplings
  • Kingpins
  • We also offer durability testing, including according to VdTÜV pamphlet No. 751.

We perform durability tests e.g. on:

  •  Vehicle frames and frame extensions
  • Special handlebars for motorcycles
  • Suspension parts and springs
  • Bicycle racks
  • Vehicles in connection with an increased towing capacity or an increase in the technically permissible gross weight

As a system service provider, our partner test laboratory Brunel Car Synergies offers its customers consulting, development and testing from a single source throughout the entire process. Its in-house test laboratory with around 100 test benches is accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Passive security

Our homologation services in the field of passive safety encompass the following areas:

  • Seat belt anchor fittings in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 14 or Regulation (EU) 2015/208 Annex XIII
  • ISOFIX anchor fittings
  • Seat strength and anchor fittings in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 17 or No. 80
  • Head restraints in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 25
  • Wheelchair and wheelchair user restraint facilities
  • Child restraint systems
  • Falling Object Protective Structures (FOPS)
  • Roll Over Protection Structures (ROPS)
  • Seat vibrations
  • Truck cabs in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 29
  • Rear underrun protective devices in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 58 or Regulation (EU) 2015/208 Annex XXVI 
  • Front underrun protective devices in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 93
  • Side protective devices in accordance with UN ECE Regulation No. 73
  • Rescue service vehicle equipment
  • Dynamic load securing tests
  • Impact tests with roof load carriers

We perform our test services in the area of passive safety at our DLG Test Center in Groß-Umstadt and at our partner test laboratory Ingenieurbüro Walter & Weißgerber in Trier. Our partner has been conducting diverse static and dynamic tests as well as sled tests according to customer requirements and in the regulated area of homologation for over twenty years.

Lighting systems

As a technical service for the type approval of vehicles and vehicle components, we also test lighting and light signal systems according to the requirements of the:

  • UN ECE regulations
  • EU regulations
  • Technical requirements for vehicle parts during type testing in accordance with Section 22a StVZO (technical requirements)

At present, we are offering approval processing with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority

(KBA) in order to obtain a type approval and also with the Vehicle Safety Certification Center Taiwan (VSCC). Simply contact us if you are interested in approval processing with other authorities.

Our partner test laboratory PHOTOMETRIK GmbH is one of the leading service providers in the field of lighting systems and is equipped with state-of-the-art test benches for measuring photometric and colorimetric properties. This also includes the motor vehicle goniophotometer LMT GO-H 1660, with which all relevant lighting system measurements in the motor vehicle sector can be conducted.

Electromagnetic compatibility

As part of the homologation requirements, our partner laboratory tests the interference emission and interference immunity of:

  • Passenger cars, trucks and buses (vehicle categories M and N)
  • Agricultural or forestry towing vehicles (vehicle categories T and C) and self-propelled working machines
  • Motorcycles and light three- and four-wheel vehicles (vehicle category L)

Additionally, for electronic sub-assemblies, line-conducted interference according to the requirements of the respectively applicable regulations:

  • UN ECE Regulation No. 10
  • Regulation (EU) 2015/208 Annex XV
  • Regulation (EU) 44/2014 Annex VII

Following the successful completion of testing as part of type approval, we prepare the technical report, review the necessary manufacturer documents (description folder) and also take care of the entire type approval process with the type approval authority on request.
