The EmpCo Directive 2024/2025 will come into force in 2026. Important for you to know: The ‘DLG – tested quality’ award is a seal of quality and not a sustainability seal within the meaning of this directive.
According to the EmpCo Directive 2024/2025, with amendments to the UGP Directive 2005/29, only so-called ‘sustainability labels’ fall under the new regulations. The directive defines these as voluntary labels that highlight the environmental or social characteristics of a product or process.

The ‘DLG – tested quality’ seal of quality has always stood for the tested quality of food. Our awards are based on a scientifically developed evaluation system. The sensory criteria of taste, smell, appearance and consistency are evaluated. Packaging and labelling tests as well as laboratory tests are also included in the overall evaluation. The evaluation is carried out by independent experts.
The ‘DLG – tested quality’ seal of approval is expressly not a sustainability seal within the meaning of the EmpCo Directive and therefore does not fall within its scope.
At the same time, our testing system meets the requirements for transparency, objectivity and traceability to a particularly high degree. All criteria are publicly available, the tests are carried out using scientifically sound methods, and participation is open to all companies without discrimination. Our award thus offers reliable guidance for consumers and a clear statement of quality for companies.
