How our experts test
Our experts draw up an expert report for each product under standardised conditions. This contains information on how to optimise quality. The basis is the internationally recognised product-specific DLG 5-point schemes®, which we are continuously refining.
The packaging and declaration tests are carried out at separate locations from sensory and laboratory tests. This ensures the neutrality of our test results. This is where experts specialised in packaging come in. The mandatory labelling elements are checked.
Scientific partner institutes and organisations carry out product-specific, microbiological, chemical and physical laboratory tests on behalf of the DLG in accordance with recognised official test procedures.
The marketable products are called up from current production and subjected to extensive quality checks. All products are anonymised for the sensory tests and the laboratory tests. This means that the DLG experts assess the product quality without knowledge of the manufacturer. This guarantees objective test results with high significance.

Numerous manufacturers have had their products tested voluntarily by DLG experts for many years. In order to promote this striving for quality, the DLG awards the "DLG Prize for Longstanding Product Quality" to manufacturers. This award for product quality tested over many years in the DLG quality tests is presented annually by the DLG to food manufacturers.
Products that have successfully participated in DLG quality tests for at least 5 consecutive years can apply for the "DLG Classic". The reference year is the first successful award year. Advertising with the marks is only permitted in direct spatial connection with the naming of the award-winning product(s). The use of the mark is automatically extended by the annual successful participation in the respective DLG quality test.
Foods that have received a DLG award can additionally be tested for special properties or product promises. With "DLG Claims", food producers can benefit even more from the know-how of the DLG experts and the high charisma of the quality awards.
