Testing of emission reduction measures

In addition to testing exhaust air purification systems, DLG TestService offers further testing and consulting services for process-integrated measures to reduce emissions in livestock housing in accordance with TA Luft (2021):

  • Emissions-reducing floor coverings (e.g. through faeces/urine separation)
  • Emissions-reducing bedding
  • Storage of liquid and solid manure (e.g. through covering)
  • Slurry additives and treatment

The revision of the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft 2021) means that the testing and certification of emission reduction technologies is now of great importance, as only quality-assured processes may be used in installations requiring approval.

Test frame for mitigation techniques

  • At or in the barn: e.g. exhaust air purification systems, process-integrated reduction measures (indoor processes)
  • Outside barn facilities: e.g. covers for open slurry tanks

Tests according to DLG test framework

  • Tests with corresponding certification are accepted by many authorities in Germany and abroad.
  • The DLG test framework serves as a guideline for conducting the test and evaluating the results.
  • Testing of the practical value, i.e. the basic suitability of indoor methods for reducing emissions under practical conditions in pig, cattle or poultry houses.
  • The DLG test thus goes far beyond a mere measurement of emissions.
  • All parties involved – approval authorities, manufacturers and farmers – can rely on the functionality of certified systems when operated properly.

Prerequisite for the assessment of an indoor measure

  • Approval of the facility in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) or building regulations
  • Compliance with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Farm Animal Husbandry Ordinance
  • Functionality of the process to be tested
