Testing of emission reduction measures

The TestService offers testing and consulting services for exhaust air cleaning systems and process-integrated measures to reduce emissions in livestock housing in accordance with TA Luft (2021).

The revision of the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft 2021) means that the testing and certification of emission reduction technologies is now of great importance, as only quality-assured processes may be used in installations requiring approval.

Process-integrated measures

  • Emissionsmindernde Bodenbeläge (z. B. durch Kot-/Harn-Trennung)
  • Emissionsreduzierende Einstreu
  • Lagerung von Flüssig- und Festmist (z. B. durch Abdeckung)
  • Güllezusatzstoffe und -behandlung

Test frame for mitigation techniques

  • At or in the barn: e.g. exhaust air purification systems, process-integrated reduction measures (indoor processes)
  • Outside barn facilities: e.g. covers for open slurry tanks

Tests according to DLG test framework

  • Tests with corresponding certification are accepted by many authorities in Germany and abroad.
  • The DLG test framework serves as a guideline for conducting the test and evaluating the results.
  • Testing of the practical value, i.e. the basic suitability of indoor methods for reducing emissions under practical conditions in pig, cattle or poultry houses.
  • The DLG test thus goes far beyond a mere measurement of emissions.
  • All parties involved – approval authorities, manufacturers and farmers – can rely on the functionality of certified systems when operated properly.

Prerequisite for the assessment of an indoor measure

  • Approval of the facility in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) or building regulations
  • Compliance with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Farm Animal Husbandry Ordinance
  • Functionality of the process to be tested

Exhaust air cleaning systems

DLG TestService tests the fundamental suitability of exhaust air cleaning systems for reducing emissions under practical conditions in pig, cattle or poultry houses.

This means that the DLG test goes far beyond a pure emission measurement. All parties involved – approval authorities, manufacturers and farmers – can therefore rely on the functionality of certified systems when operated correctly.

High importance of testing and certification

The revision of the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft) has made the testing and certification of exhaust air purification systems extremely important, as only quality-assured processes may be used in systems requiring approval. In this context, the DLG test framework is often cited as a guideline for conducting and evaluating tests.

Convincing advantages

DLG-approved exhaust air purification systems are accepted by building permit authorities.

DLG-certified systems also comply with the requirements of TA Luft (2021) No. 5.4.7.1.
